SOMEthing
to THINK ABOUT
on
computers
Being
a “computer” used to be a honorabele profession. A computer was a
human being, with many women among them, were professional
calculators. They got their work from the military (ballistics),
architects, the navy (mapping) and the government (city-planning).
The
second World War saw a dramatic development of electronic
calculations and the first computers, who were used to descript
messages from the enemy. Shortly after the end of WW2 “human
computers” disappeared, to be replaced by a machine.
