MONKEY MEMO: daily update

Which effects have playing computer-games, and specifically violent war-games on your (future) behavior?

It seems to be true, that young surgeons obtain better in the operating, than their elder colleagues. Why? They had played computergames and through transfer, they used modern operating-techniques (through robots) much easier.

Look at the following experiment.

18 12-year old boys, were divided into three groups of 6. Each group was a presented with a different video-game: a foot-ball game, a social (non-violent) game and a wargame (shoot to kill). The group got the opportunity to play the game for half an hour after that they were, individually, interviewed by the experimentor.

He sat behind a paper-filled desk, in front of him the “study-object”. Through his clumsiness, he pushes a container full of pencils on the floor; next to the boy.

Result:

Of the 18 boys, 13 immediately went on their knees, and started cleaning up, 5 did not and sat still, waiting.

The 5 boys had played the war-game!

some Conclusions:

Playing war-games isolates you from a shared reality.

Kids are trained to clean up (their stuff)

War-games program you to stick to the leader and only to do as told.

That's how kids like to play

Computergames neglect your brain
