THE VIKING DECEPTION

Facts and fraud on the antique-market

In the 1950's an medieval manuscript appeared on the “ancient-books”-market. The manuscript described the life and habits of the Tartars (Mongols). What made the book extra special, was the fact, that the book was bound with parchment. On it a worldmap was shown. Though the map was far from accurate, but Greenland could clearly been distinguished. The sensation was complete. On the map Newfoundland was drawn and named “Vinland”. The book was dated 1441. Finally there was proof, that the Vikings were the first Europeans to visit America and not Christoffer Columbus.

From the beginning there were doubts about the autheticity of the Vinland-map.
